IS A DEVACUT FOR YOU?

There is a terrible fear of getting a haircut for most people with wavy or curly natural hair. This is because there are so many horror stories of haircuts gone bad at the hands of stylists who do not have experience cutting naturally curly or wavy hair.

This fear is understood. I mean, won’t you be scared of someone taking a go at your hair and leaving you with a cut straight out of the horror movies?
The thing inexperienced hair stylists don’t understand is that straight hair and curly hair are nothing alike. So, trying to apply the same techniques used for straight hair to cutting curly hair results in unnatural, chopped up, and uneven cuts. This is perfectly fine if you are going for “hey, my four year old nephew took a blade to my hair.” If this is not the look you are going for, however, this article might be just for you.
So, what is a DevaCut? And might it be for you?
The origin of the DevaCut
The DevaCut was created by the Devachan Salon. It is a special procedure for cutting coily, wavy, or curly hair to make each curl look its best. Before then, most salons cut curly hair in order to tame curls. The Devachan Salon in New York began to cut hair not just to tame curls but to maximise the definition of each curl.

The creator realised that cutting wet curly hair did not allow the hairstylist to see where the curls naturally fall and to see the curl’s true desired shape. So for a change, Devachan Salon started to cut and style natural hair only in its dry state. The idea was not to deform the actual curl structure and rip and frizz up the hair ends, but to allow the shape of the curls to lead the way of the cut.
So, who is the DevaCut ideal for?
Ideal candidates for the DevaCut are people who have some curl definition in their hair and wear wash and go’s a lot. If you often wear your hair in stretched styles such as braid outs and twist outs or if you flat iron your hair often, this method may not be the best option for you simply because there is a tendency for your shape to be uneven in a stretched state.
The DevaCut is especially helpful for people who have different curl textures throughout their hair.
Why you should consider it
If you fit the bill for the ideal DevaCut candidate, you should really consider getting this cut; at least try it one time, and you’ll find yourself going back for more.
Here is one simple reason you should consider the cut: no two curls are the same, and wetting the hair straight will not exactly account for the way your hair texture varies.

And by God, we do not wear our hair wet, so what exactly is the reason behind stylists cutting hair wet? While wet cuts ate the traditional way of doing it, traditional doesn’t always work. And if traditional does not work, why not chuck it out and adopt the untraditional?
So, go ahead. Give it a try today, and let your curls bounce and shine.
Getting a DevaCut
If you just started wearing your hair in wash and go styles, it is advised that you master your technique before you get a DevaCut. Ensure that that you are absolutely satisfied with the results of your wash and go, and then get a DevaCut to accentuate your curls.

Straightening your hair before getting a cut is not a good idea because the integrity of your hair shape may be compromised when it eventually shrinks.
Now that you’ve decided to get a DevaCut, it is especially important that you go to an experienced stylist.
Get this; not all natural hair hairstylists know how to perfect a DevaCut. So, it is important that you do your homework and ensure that your intended stylist knows how. You can get one at our salon. We welcome you in advance.
